One of the major topics discussed in Daniel and Antony’s 2014 article is the reason why LGBT individuals fear to openly communicate their sexual orientation. One of the reasons given is that LGBT individuals fear being rejected. As explained in this article, LGBT individuals fear being rejected by their family members as well as their friends. Daniel and Antony point out that an individual’s family and friends are important because these two are sources of love. According to these authors, love is a basic need which is why many people are willing to do anything to get it. In their words, when an individual is rejected, it means that the love that he or she was initially accorded has been withdrawn.
According to Benjamin and Brent’s 2015 article, fear of social exclusion prevents LGBT individuals from communicating their sexual orientation openly. Authors Benjamin and Brent point out that most religious organization tend to cut their ties with LGBT persons because their acts are prohibited in their doctrines. By cutting ties, these organizations exclude LGBT persons from their functions. As these authors explain, religious leaders are not ready to entertain LGBT persons that engage in immoral activities. These two authors reveal that there are many LGBT persons who attend religious services so that their sexual orientation is not revealed.
Fredrick and Ruth’s 2016 article states that the fear of being harassed prevents LGBT individuals from communicating their sexual orientation openly. For instance, authors Fredrick and Ruth point out several instances where homosexuals have been beaten by the public for kissing publicly. The common reason given by the public for beating up the homosexuals was that they were promoting an evil act. These two authors also give other additional examples where LGBT persons were harassed in public transport vehicles after their sexual orientation was discovered. In one example, these authors reveal that homosexuals were forced out of a train for their evil public displays.
In their 2014 published article, Rhoads and Robert point out in this article that it is the desire to overcome psychological distress that prevents LGBT individuals from communicating their sexual orientation openly. According to these two authors, rejection by family members is more likely to cause a psychological distress. The impact of this as per the authors is that it reduces work performance of LGBT persons. To put it in another way, these two authors argue that the act of being rejected by family members is more likely to stress LGBT persons to an extent that it will interfere with their work performance. This according to them is because these individuals will be lacking emotional support.
Stevens and Richard’s 2014 article explains that the fear of being hated prevents LGBT individuals from communicating their sexual orientation openly. Authors Stevens and Richard reveal that the desire of every human being is to feel appreciated. In their effort to emphasize this fact, these two authors as the question, why do people struggle to look presentable? According to the two authors, the answer to this question is so as to be appreciated. Simply put, every individual wants to be recognized as being important and not inferior. This is because individuals that are regarded as important are quickly accorded love and admiration.
