Ageism, End of Life Decision
One of the most difficult parts of ageism is to make the end of life decision. Such decision can be made in life about how to deal with old age problems. But most of the time people do not make such decision like investing in insurance programs etc., in their youth and adulthood. When old age arrives, such people are at the mercy of their relatives to make their decisions. Caretakers’ should make sure they make the best decision for their old relatives. They must put themselves in their position before deciding for them. It would be appropriate to ask old people about what they want to do. Whether certain surgeries are needed, what medications are necessary and what would be possible side effects, all such decision must be taken by discussing everything with a trained physician. It is very important to ease the life of old age people without giving them unbearable pains of medical treatments.
How to improve aging
To make sure that people live a healthy life even at an old age they must be provided with free healthcare programs to reduce medical expenditure. Old people should be provided care in their own homes rather nursing homes to make sure that does not miss their loved ones and feel depressed. Proper home care and government support can ease the life of the aging population. To ensure a better life even at an old age, one must plan for old age insurance programs so that we are not burdened with medical expenses. Proper savings and investment in appropriate insurance programs can make our lives better even at an old age. Better nursing and old age homes will improve the mental and physical well-being of old age people (NAVASKY & O’CONNOR, 2006).
