A Letter from Captive in North Africa

Dear Office of Foreign Affairs:

I am in a group of sailors captured along the Mediterranean Sea and we have been held in North Africa for six months now. For the last six months things have never been easy for me. We have been living under inhuman condition with chains around our waist. Several people have died and the remaining few of us are subjected to torture and hard labor. Since, I am trained captain, the captive assign me different task to collect firewood, and dig tranches as well which is not a little job. Every day we under go through a serious pain and torture and therefore, I am afraid with this condition I might not live for long if I am not ransomed from this camp with the demanded USD 2 million.

In last few months things have not been easy. Every day we are taken from one water camp to another and asked questions about our families. We spend night and day inside water which has killed several other captives. Besides being kept in water, we starve since we only get a single meal a day which even not sufficient. We get beaten and work as slaves in most camps to serve the masters. In the process we are also being compelled to declare allegiance to their religions since their discovered that several of us are Christian. Despite the fact that we work painfully hard under inhuman condition we spent days toiled in dirty fields and houses without any light. This has made several other people to get diseases and died as well (Craig, 2015). It is like a bitter terrorist with not right for anything in life which is so frustrating.

Several people have been slaughtered as we watched because their government and families could not corporate and deliver ransom as asked. The process was very tormenting since they chop off parts of their organs one by one (Shakespeare, 1596). First, their ears are cut off, noise and eyes removed before, cut off their necks. It is hard to witness such act. Last week I was put in a group of ten men to be ransomed and I as write this letter, my neck have been chained, and I believe we shall be paraded waiting to be slaughtered if the ransom fail to arrive as requested (Miguel, 1605). The next phase shall be will be to call each of us and get the date for punishment and sending the ransom as required will definitely save my life and give my family hope and aspiration as well.

The ransom is USD 2 million which is supposed to be delivered as prescribed and any failure will lead to my painful death. Several other people have been murdered such as Mike Craig and Peter Tied because their governments failed to deliver ransom as demanded and I believe they are not joking. I am the breadwinner in my family and my painful death will leave a big dent to repair. My children and my death will torture since my wife will find it hard to explain the painful tale (Keneally, 2015).

I believe highly in the government commitment to protect her citizens. And therefore, requesting the government to pay for my ransom so that I can get freedom likes the rest of families who have been freed from this yoke. Paying for the ransom will be a blessing to my family as well and give me another opportunity to serve the government and the country in different capacities.
